Medley LE Metallic Magenta Coil Splitter AND

Hey Guys...
I just bought a used Medley LE in a Metallic Magenta color. It's got the 3 pickups with the humbucker in the rear. Now the Volume knob on the guy acts as a coil splitter... but the tone knob is of the push pull variety. Any idea what that one is up to? Maybe a phase switch? Any ideas?

It's got to be a phase control. That's about the only thing that makes sense once you have coil tapped. Are you sure the 'single coils' are not SD Quarter pounders, for example, which can be tapped?
