I came across an unusual guitar the other day. It apparently is a one-off custom Robin in the style of a headless Steinberger, with an actual Steinberger stop-tailpiece. The guitar is done in amber flame maple.....really a gorgeous piece of art. It has EMG pups in it. I would have bought it but I don't collect anymore. Nevertheless I was impressed with the quality and the uniqueness of it. What is the story?

Hey Ed,

Was that one in a music store in Humble, TX?

How'd you know? Yes, in Humble. Did you build it? If so I can't say enough about your luthier abilities. That little guitar knocked my socks off, and I don't get excited about ANY guitars anymore. I've gone through the PRS's, LP's, Strats, and a bunch of others. Once I got over the trophy hunting I sold them all. Now I just play an 80's Raider and a Korean SG with Antiquities in it.
I would like to hear the story about how that guitar came into being. And then tell someone to go buy it before I do. If it had a Trans Trem in it I would have. The stop-tail was the only downside to the guitar for me. What modification would have to be made to put a Trans Trem in it? Actually, it would be a sin to make ANY mod to that guitar.....

How did I know? Because I'm "Smitty the All Knowing"...and because my buddy Rod Roberts and his family own that store, and I was through there a couple months ago and saw it...[grin]...

Me build it? Only in my wildest dreams... I stick to web sites, not woodwork. I have a pic I took of that guitar, let me see if I can dig it out...

Well, I guess that tells you how much (little) I know about Robin guitars. I thought maybe you were the owner of the company?! So, can you dig up any history on the instrument?

Dave Wintz is the guy you're thinking of. I'm Dave, and in Texas, but not THAT Dave...

Speaking of Dave Wintz, we'll all scream really loud and see if he'll post a note about this guitar...I know he's peeking...
