i've found a message saying that all rangers before '88 were made by tokai, japan. is that true? if so, are all the post '88 rangers (and wranglers) made in the usa? how can i check where the guitar is made? and generally, what special things should i check out buying a used one?

sorry for such a simple questions, but i never had robin and would like to have one...

thanks

All Rangers & in fact all Robins before 1988 were made in Japan by Tokai & other companies. All post 1988 Rangers (and other Robins) are Texas made. The Japanese Robins say nothing about origin. All USA made Robins will say so on the guitar & most have the State of Texas in a circle with the words "Handcrafted in Houston, Texas USA" on the back of the headstock. The serial #'s of Texas made Robins designate year of manufacture by the first 2 digits. Ex: 911026 would be 1991

Special things to check really are just if the guitar is in good condition. If you cant tell take it to a trustworthy repairman & have him check it out for you. Good luck.

Thank you for the answer Mr. President!!!

And what about a quality of Japanese Robins? Should I look for the American ones to get the best of what I can get from Robin? Or are the Japanese ones the same good? (Did they have Rio Grande pickups mounted originally?)

Thank you

The Japanese ones were pretty good but do not have Rio Grandes which came out in 1994. We now have new Ranger & Wrangler "Pros" which list for $1200.00

These are great guitars with satin nitrocellulose laquer finishes, Rio Grandes & our new necks which were recently retooled.

I believe these & the "Custom" models are our best yet and they just keep getting better.
