I recently purchased this georgeous Robin 6 string guitar & case at a local loan & jewelery store..ok pawn shop.
I have been on the Robin website.and can't tell the date, etc..even what is it worth.
I know it's a Ranger of some vintage.
It's serial number on the chrome body/neck 4 screw backplate is 16013. The backplate has the Robin logo etched in the middle.
It has the reverse headstock with a Robin decal exactly like the 1982 black & white catalog. The headstock on the cover. The body is not bound. The strings go through the body. The back of the maple neck has a brown stripe down the middle. (truss rod cover?)The machines are marked with a single S, and definately replacements.
Pickups: One at the neck is double humbucker exposed black which rest in the pickguard. The other two, appear to be two single coil and they are not in the pickguard but in the top body cavity and I guess attached somehow to the rear backplate. The chrome plate houses a 5 blade switch and volume & tone controls. The pickguard it one flat white piece of white plastic, using 10 screws. Facing the guitar in the left horn of the pickguard is a faintly circled and slightly cut, looking like it could have been a place once for another toggle switch.
Who can help me id this marvelous Robin guitar, date it, and what's it worth? The pots &
and are noiseless.

Read the thread down a ways about the USA and Japanese made Robins. Dave Wintz(Pres. of Robin)explains how to date them. Yours was most likely built in Japan by Tokai.

Tokai Rangers were two pickup models. The neck would have 21 frets on a Tokai model. The three pickup Rangers (humbucker, strat, tele) had 22 fret necks and were made by ESP.
