Hi guys.. New to the board, and don't have a robin yet, but thinking hard about getting one.. I'm interested in the Savoy Pro pretty much, but I also like the looks of the Avalon pro.. Can someone tell me the differences in sound by any chance ? I take it the hollow bodied Savoy would be lighter I'd guess.. I also wish the Avalon was made of Mahogany like the Savoy.. Maybe it's just me, but all of the set neck guitars I've every played were mahogany and they just sound great.. it must be the mojo wood or something to use.. That said, if the Avalon is lightweight and sounds good I'd consider it too! .. Any feedback would be great..

The Avalon Pro IS made of mahogany. It has a maple top and a mahogany neck. The Savoy is a larger guitar than the Avalon (about the size of an ES-335), so the weight of the two guitars is usually about the same. This will also depend on the individual guitar because different pieces of the same type of wood weigh different amounts. I have two Avalon Custom Classics - one of them is VERY light; the other is a little bit heavier, but not nearly the weight of some Les Pauls I've picked up. I've never weighed my guitars, so I don't know their exact weight. I also have an Avalon Deluxe that is made from Swamp Ash and it's the lightest of my three Avalons. Avalon & Savoy Deluxes are made from either Swamp Ash or Poplar.

Tim,

Fair Warning:

Robin's are very habit forming... Don't choose between an Avalon and a Savoy; get one of each!
