Hey guys, I was just in a local shop here in MI and found this black Jackson looking guitar called a Robin. Fell in love with it immediately even though I've never heard of them before. Brought it home and have been jamming away.

I know it's a Medley, but how can I tell which type? There seems to be several flavors around. And how can you date it by the 6 digit serial number?

Thanks in advance. And I look forward to finding more of these great guitars in the future!

Dating Robins can be tricky. Getting them drunk is a chore, and they always have to be back early....

Daryl:

Since 1988 the American made Robins have a six digit # beginning with the year. EX 1988 could be 881135 or 95 could be 951223. Prior to that they may have had 4(I think?) to 6 digit numbers in no particular order. All pre 1988 Japanese production will have no country of origin on the guitar---all USA Robins will definately say "Made in USA" somewhere on the guitar, unless it has been removed (unlikely.

Thanks Dave, that helps. Turns out it was made in '92 but it's in factory new condition, absolutely pristine. Story goes that the guy that ordered it died right about the time he received it (probably from the shock of beholding such a finely made instrument) and it sat in a closet until I bought it from where the Mom brought it in to be sold a couple of months ago. Strange but I'm glad I found it. I'll be ordering another this year from Robin.
