Hi! I bought a used Robin Freedom Bass last fall. I haven't used it much yet. I usually play with my fingers and it seemed fine until after the new year when it started making a horribly sort of electric clicky noise when i was playing it. Got soomeone to look at it, install a new nut, work on alignment and the neck but the sound was still there. Took it to Matt Umanoff Guitars in the West Village and the guy there took it all apart and still couldn't fix it. he said the electronics are bad somewhere. When i put my finger on the top pickup on each of the pickups, it makes a huge hum. And when i play with a pick its horrible. The guy suggested "not playing near the pickups" and or selling it, and my friend who gave me the new nut said i should look into getting new pickups and and pots and bypassing the active electronics.
I need advice. He suggested Lindy Fralin pickups but then we'd have to do some modification. What kind of pickups does this thing take originally? What would be easy to install...i mean what would fit in the holes where the pickups are now? I paid $700 for it and thought that meant it would be prime but i guess thats just the way used things are. I don't have a ton of money to sink into it but really lilke its feel and sound (without the annoying pops and clicks).
Can anyone give me some advice???
thanks in advance,
jen
