so, all of my guitars that i actually play have rio's in them. (sg/tele/avalon/v/ranger)

the flying v currently has texas/bbq with nickel covers in it... i think the covers mellow out the sound and i want to "metal" this thing up a bit.

i am having a tough time deciding which to go with, the halfbreed or the muy grande.

i have a non-covered genuine texas in my sg and it is really ballsy and i would like to exceed that a bit more in the V.

going for a progressive/metal type sound with out losing the natural tone of the guitar wood.

any suggestions?

prolly should have posted this in the humber section. oooops.

for a pretty hefty price you could get a pair of Bare Knuckle pickups that sound far superior to anything i've heard as far as metal goes. either the Warpigs or the Nailbombs. both have an active sound that is very natural and not steril like active pickups. just wondering if you've heard of them.

I would suggest either the Muy or the Crunchbox. The Crunchbox in my experience is not like a lot of really high output pickups in that it's very usable and it's not overly noisy and doesn't squeal a lot when you stand within 10 feet of your amplifier. I think you would do well with either one. You could also PM or email Dave Wintz and ask him, he is the man when it comes to all things Rio Grande....
