Hi all - I'm new to this forum & glad to have found it!
I owned a trans-cherry Robin Savoy (Elite?) for about 3 years, but ended up selling it a couple of years ago. Very well made guitar, gorgeous flamey top, but I just never "bonded" with it. The frets were HUGE (wide and high), and it had 1 volume and 1 tone pot - I'm used to having separate volume pots for each pickup. So, rather than modify the guitar to be more to my liking, I sold it.
I've used Rio Grande pickups for years in many of my guitars and believe that they are some of the best sounding pickups available! Up until recently, I just never thought about trying another Robin guitar.
Anyway, about 4 months ago BCRGreg received a beautiful Wrangler Custom for one of his customers. I was blown away! Basically a very high quality tele-strat hybrid that looked great, felt great had gobs of great tone and was fairly priced!
So I ended up ordering a Wrangler Custom from BCRGreg about 4 months ago. I asked for a light body, a "chunky" neck and a coil tap on the neck humbucker. My Wrangler came in about a month ago and exceeded my expectations in every way! It has quickly become my "Go-to" single coil guitar. (That's no small feat- it's up against my trusty Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top - tough competition!)
Now I am really looking forward to seeing / hearing an Avalon. Could be my next single-cut guitar. (As long as I can get it with separate volume controls for each pickup!)
I am also working on convincing my wife that I need to go to Texas on October 2 for the RobinFest. (Not an easy sell so far - I'm already going to another guitar company in New Hartford CT on October 22... wish me luck!)
