Hey everybody. I'm thinking about getting a Robin around November. I play mostly Dream Theater, ZZ Top etc. with a little Zakk Wylde on top. Will the Medly Pro http://www.robinguitars.com/medley_pro.html
suit my needs pretty well? I love the fact that it Mahogany. I'd heard it was neck through but all the ones I've seen are bolt on. Is this a myth? Thanks for your time.

Will.

Hey Will,I really think that you would love the
Medley Pro,and feel confident that it would suit your style of play to a "T". However.........I have never personally seen a Medley with a neck thru option, and I'm pretty sure that the Pro would not come with one. This doesn't mean that they never made a Medley with a neck thru, but out of the 15 or so that I have had through the years not 1 had this option.I'm not even sure if they offer it as an option at this point. You'll never regret owning a Robin.(Joyful Noise Music)

I'm not 100% positive, but...

The Medley first appeared as a MIJ model. Japanese Medleys were set-neck, but had the appearance of a neck-through because they had a sculpted neck joint.

The earliest American Medleys were neck-through. Not many of these were made, but they are very cool guitars (I wish hadn't passed on one at a REALLY low price a few years ago). Most had locking tremolos, while some had tun-o-matics. In my conversations with Dave, he told me when they first started Houston production, he wanted to make a "no holds barred" guitar and decided that neck-through was the way to go. After building these for awhile, he realized that neck-through guitars are twice the work of a traditional set neck guitar.

The Machete Custom is/was a neck-though guitar, although I don't think these are made anymore unless it is a custom order.

The Medley Pro is a bolt-on model. Robin is no longer making any neck-thru guitars (per Dave) as they do not have enough space at the current facility. I'm sure you'd be really happy with one, especially if you have the pickups coil-tapped like the Medley Standard. My custom Machete is a bolt on and the neck is rock solid. The heel is well sculpted, making it as comfortable as any of my neck-through guitars.
You can't go wrong with a Robin!
