Does anyone know what the stock pickup for the Robin Soloist guitar (pictured in the 1983 catalog) is/was? I have a Soloist and the pickup is a Dimarzio, but I need to know the model number. Thanks.

I believe that Gotoh made all of the early pickups, and Tokai put them in all early Robins. The guitar pictured in the 83 catalog is also known as the Artisan.I hope I'm right, and I hope that helps. If not,Ken Jones is your man.

Original pickups in all MIJ Robins were/are Gotoh.
DEFINITELY post a pic.
Are you positive it is a "Soloist" and not an "Artisan"? Post a pic of the entire guitar and the headstock if you can. The serial # should be located in the control cavity in case you're curious.

The 83' catalog on the website shows an Artisan with a caption of Soloist beneath it?Maybe a typo in the catalog,or maybe Tone Lover has a Soloist with one pickup?Show, and tell!

The Soloist in the catalog was the prototype for the Artisan series. It was made in Austin, TX by Mike Stevens. In that same photo, you will also see the "Mando" protoype - the only one ever made (where is it? I don't know). All of the early Robin prototypes were made by Mike Stevens.
The prototype Soloist is owned by Bart Whitrock and is hanging up at Rockin Robin. They changed the name to Artisan because Jackson came out with their Soloist before the Robin Soloist ever went into production.
